New Year 7 Transition Taster Day Monday 8 July

Dear Y6 children and families

As you will know the Tewkesbury School transition taster day for our new Year 7 children is coming up on Monday 8 July.  *PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE NOW ONLY HOLDING 1 TASTER DAY ON MONDAY 8 JULY (TUES 9 JULY IS CANCELLED)*

I would just like to remind you of the following instructions:

  • The taster day is a compulsory part of the transition process.  Students will experience a mixture of lessons and activities with different teachers for each lesson and moving with the rest of the school on the bell.
  • If your child is ill and cannot attend, please telephone to inform us on 01684 292152 before 9.00am
  • Children should arrive in time for 8.30am and report to the Central Tennis courts. Staff and student helpers will be there to greet them.
  • Children should wear their usual primary school uniform - as it is so warm there is no need to bring jumpers.  (Bring a coat if it is raining)
  • Time at lunch is spent outside, so students are encouraged to bring a hat/cap and apply sun cream if it is very hot and sunny.
  • They should bring:
    • a bag
    • pen/writing materials
    • food - snacks for break. A packed lunch and drink of water/squash in a refillable bottle. No fizzy drinks. There will be no access to the canteen.  We will provide a meal for any students who are in receipt of free school meals.
  • Children are NOT allowed to bring a mobile phone.
  • Please bring earphones/headphones as there will be a session in the computer suite that requires sound.
  • The taster day is a great opportunity for children to get used to making their way to and from Tewkesbury School.  If your child is cycling they will need to bring a lock for the bike sheds.  The main car park can become very busy before and after school, please bear this in mind.  I am sure your child would rather walk and meet you at an agreed point, and would definitely not want you waiting outside reception to collect!  If you live in a village and your child would like to travel on the bus, please advise our school office so that arrangements can be made with bus companies.
  • In the welcome packs that will soon be issued via primary schools, there will be a 'Moving up to Tewkesbury School booklet'. We ask you to spend some time looking at this over the summer.  Please keep this in a safe place, as your child will need to bring it on the first day of term.  The admission form needs to be completed and returned to your child’s primary school by Monday 15 July at the latest.
  • Our school day ends at 3.25pm.

 Uniform and equipment:

  • At the end of the taster day on Monday 8 July from 3.30-6.30pm we will be selling calculators and filled pencil cases with stationery at Reception. It is not compulsory to buy from us, however, most parents find this is a simple and cost effective way to get all of the stationery.  Pencil cases are £6 and calculators are £8.  Cash sales only.   Nearly new uniform is also on display to view/buy.

We look forward to welcoming the children and hope they enjoy their taster day.

In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact the school if you should have any queries.
