Are you interested in being a Community Governor?

School Governors are people who want to make a positive contribution to children's education
Tewkesbury School is a successful, inclusive academy offering a broad and balanced curriculum to the youth of Tewkesbury and its surrounding areas. It is one of the largest secondary schools in Gloucestershire with over 1,350 students aged between 11-18 attending the school.

Community governors can be persons who live or work in the community served by the school, or persons who do not work or live close to the school but are committed to the good governance and success of the school.

The appointment of a community governor will be used to strengthen links between the school and the community that it serves and to enable the governing body to add specific areas of expertise to their membership.

Parents of pupils, both of those currently at the school and of pupils who have left the school, are also eligible to stand as community governors.

Community governors are appointed by the governing body to represent community interests.
Governors are unpaid and there is an expectation that each Governor joins at least one of the sub committees (6 evening meetings per year), attends the Full Governing Body meetings (3 evening meetings per year) and becomes a link Governor supporting a faculty. Link Governors usually spend two mornings a year in the classroom and meeting faculty staff.

If you are interested in making a difference to the education of young people and would like to join our dynamic, committed Governing Body, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Please note that for the protection of children all Governor appointments are subject to a DBS and identity check.

To apply, please send your CV and a covering letter to Mr Steve Hawkins, Chair of Governors, via our Clerk to Governors: clerk@tewkesburyschool.org
