Welcome

Welcome to the Sixth Form

At Tewkesbury School Sixth Form we provide an excellent learning experience and ensure that all of our students leave with the necessary qualifications, skills and experiences needed to prepare them for the next steps in their lives. We want our students to be a straightforward choice for universities and employers.

Our Sixth Form promotes the enjoyment of learning and we support the ‘whole student’ through our excellent guidance systems. Alongside academic success we will encourage you to think about how you can enrich your personal development in other ways. You will have the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of extra-curricular and community activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme and setting up charity events. The more you get involved, the more you will get out of your time with us.

The strength of the Sixth Form is, of course, its students and each year we are amazed at the range of talents that Sixth Form students possess. Our aim is to help you to achieve your academic potential and give you as many social opportunities as possible. We promise you a memorable time in the Sixth Form and look forward to getting to know you.

Headteacher Welcome

tewks schoolsixth formTewkesbury School Sixth Form is a vibrant and caring community of over 250 students. Although their interests and abilities vary, they all share high aspirations to aim for excellence and fulfil their individual potential.

Students are given greater freedom than lower down the school but, at the same time, are expected to exercise leadership and responsibility. They are expertly led and supported by Chris Thomson and Rachael Waters along with an enthusiastic and skilled team of tutors and a Sixth Form administrator.

The majority of students progress to universities including Oxford and Cambridge. They are given guidance by experienced staff on the appropriate course of Advanced level study, whether academic, vocational or a mixture of both. Great importance is attached to gaining excellent qualifications at the same time as developing interests, talents and personal qualities. There are regular reviews organised by the Directors of Sixth Form and subject teachers so that you know exactly how well you are progressing.  In addition, Form Tutors will provide you with guidance and support.

The Sixth Form is rich in extra-curricular opportunities: we have a strong tradition of community service and charity work and there is an abundance of social, sporting, dramatic and musical events.  Students are represented by the Sixth Form Student Committee and are encouraged to contribute their ideas to improve sixth form life.

The accommodation comprises a common room, private study room, a Sixth Form cafe, careers centre and Sixth Form teaching rooms.

To succeed takes enthusiasm, hard work, good organisation and commitment. If you have these qualities then you will certainly find that your experiences at Tewkesbury School Sixth Form will be some of the best and most worthwhile in your life.
