Transition to Y7: Sept 2020

Tewkesbury School Key Dates

* = provisional. We will update you once we have a better idea of any potential return to school later in the summer term and whether transition dates are able to go ahead. However, we are now thinking about alternative ways of helping new starters with the transition to Tewkesbury School. This will be both in terms of how we can help students get a feel for the school, the staff and the way we do things, and what parents can do at home to get children ready for transition.  We will be in touch again with further information.

Summer Term 2020: Contact with primaries starts to collect information on your child. *Welcome presentations given to Year 6 children at their primary schools and welcome pack issued (June/July).  You will be informed of your child’s House/Tutor Group placement via a separate letter/email in July.

*Monday 6 July and Tuesday 7 July 2020, 8.30-3.25pm:  Compulsory transition taster days for new Year 7 children to attend

This is a compulsory part of the transition process. Students will experience two full days at Tewkesbury School, attending a mixture of lessons and activities with different teachers for each lesson and moving with the rest of the school on the bell. We recommend that you use this day as an opportunity to get children used to making their way to and from school. Primary school uniform is worn.

Wednesday 2 September 2020, 8.30-3.25pm: Tewkesbury School - Day 1 – Year 7 only

Once again we will be welcoming around 220 new students in September. They will have the opportunity to experience the school by themselves on Wednesday, 2 September before the arrival of the other students the following day.

On the first day, children wear Tewkesbury School uniform and will meet with staff and Sixth Form helpers on the Central Tennis Courts. They will have an assembly before going on a tour of the school with their new tutor.  They will be issued with catering lanyards and timetables during the day.  On Thursday 3 September, they will meet their tutor group for the first time, with normal lessons starting from break.  We will remind parents about all of these details again, nearer the time!

October 2020:  Y7 Tutor/Parent contact week

Other useful information

You will be issued with a welcome pack, this may be an online version this year. This contains the admission form for completion and return.  A Moving up to Tewkesbury School student handbook will also be given to your child and they will need to keep this to use in September.  Please read this over the summer and keep this in a safe place to bring to school on the first day of term!
