Progression to Year 7: Sept 2018

Year 6 Specialist Subject Sessions

As part of our transition process we offer specialist subject sessions to all Year 6 children throughout the year.   There are up to 24 places per session and bookings are now being taken.  If you would like your child to attend, please click to book the relevant session below.

Sessions take place on the dates shown below between 4 and 5pm at Tewkesbury School.   There is a small charge of £3 per session to cover costs, payable on arrival.

Parents must collect their children in person at the end of the session.  Updates about the sessions will appear on the website/Twitter/Facebook.   We look forward to seeing you!

March 2017: Already attended Year 5 Exploration Week

25 September – 29 September 2017: Open Evening / Mornings. Morning tours at 9.15 am and 11.15 am

Deadline 31 October 2017: Parents apply online to Gloucestershire County Council with Tewkesbury School as preference

1 March 2018: Parents receive allocated place from Gloucestershire County Council

by 8 March 2018: Parents confirm place with Gloucestershire County Council (GCC).  GCC update Tewkesbury School

April 2018: We write to parents regarding the forthcoming meeting dates and when you will be informed of your child’s Tutor Group placement

25 April 2018:  6.00 pm.  Parents’ Information Evening in the Sports Hall on vertical tutoring and curriculum organisation.

An information evening for parents/carers about the curriculum, House and tutoring systems, expectations and opportunities and school uniform. No Year 6 pupils to attend – they will receive this information later in the term.  Our school uniform suppliers will have items on display with price lists and details of their forthcoming discounts.

Summer Term 2018: Visits to primaries to collect information on your child. Welcome pack issued to families.

Saturday 30 June 2018:  New Y7 parent-student learning morning at Tewkesbury School

A great success every year! Year 6 pupils are invited to bring a parent/carer to a morning of fun activities.  Click here to book your place, spaces are limited to please book early to avoid disappointment. 

During Partnership Learning Event there will be a uniform sizing session from School Trends in the Sports Hall from 10.00am-2.00pm.  During the morning break and after the event there will be the opportunity for you to view uniform and place orders which can be delivered to the school or your home.  A second School Trends uniform sizing event will take place on 10 July. Cash and card payments can be made on the day.

Our school nearly-new uniform shop will also have items available to buy at both events (cash only).   An inventory of nearly new items is available here.

9 and 10 July 2018:  New Y7 Taster Days. 

This is a compulsory part of the transition process. Students will experience two full days at Tewkesbury School, attending a mixture of lessons and activities with different teachers for each lesson and moving with the rest of the school on the bell. We recommend that you use these days as an opportunity to get children used to making their way to and from school.

Other useful information

Your child will be issued with a welcome pack during our primary visits that take place in the summer term. This contains the admission form and a Moving up to Tewkesbury School student handbook that your child will need to keep and use in September.  Please read this over the summer and keep this in a safe place to bring to school on the first day of term!

Tewkesbury School's uniform grant for new Year 7 students - September 2018

Grants in support of purchasing new school uniform for students transferring in September 2018 can be applied for via Tewkesbury School. The grant is a one off payment, for the amount of £50.00.  You can only apply for this during the Summer Term 2018. An application form will be supplied in the 'Welcome Pack', or can be obtained from the school's finance office in the summer term 2018. Please ensure that you provide the relevant supporting information.

The grants are only available to Parents/Guardians who receive either Income Support, Income Related Employment & Support Allowance, Income-Based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), Support Under Part VI of the Immigration & Asylum Act 1999, Child Tax Credit, provided you are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs) that does not exceed £16,190, or the Guaranteed element of State Pension.

Uniform, specifically our blazer with the pre-embroidered school badge, girls skirts and trousers with the school logo, v neck jumpers with logo, the clip-on school tie with house colour and the Tewkesbury School PE kit can be purchased from schooltogs Cheltenham, Trutex in Gloucester and online from SchoolTrends. PE kit can be purchased from Martin Berrill Sports in Gloucester.  We also have a nearly new school uniform shop. You can view items online here.
